Guide to Transportation and Lodging

Getting to the Venue

Omagari Hanabi takes place along the Omono River in Daisen City, Akita Prefecture. Each summer, the National Fireworks Competition (August) is the city’s biggest event of the year, drawing visitors from all over Japan. The Spring (April) and Autumn (October) chapters offer a calmer atmosphere and a more relaxed pace to enjoy the fireworks. Whichever season you choose, plan your journey with plenty of time to spare — it’s all part of the experience.

By Car

During the August National Fireworks Competition, expect heavy traffic and extensive road restrictions. On the day of the event, many areas around the venue will be closed to vehicles, with some lots inaccessible until late at night. Major roads such as National Routes 13 and 105, as well as the Omagari IC, are expected to experience severe congestion from the afternoon until 2:00–3:00 AM. We strongly recommend parking at a less congested location and using public transportation to access the venue.

Spring and Autumn events draw smaller crowds, but you should still check traffic conditions and allow extra travel time. For details on parking and road closures, see the Parking & Traffic Map on each event’s overview page.

Traffic Restrictions & Congestion Information

On the day of the August competition, the area surrounding the venue will be designated a vehicle-restricted zone. Due to limited road access in the Omagari area, traffic jams often begin around 3:00 PM and can continue until late at night. Please review the Omagari Hanabi Access Map in advance, and plan your trip accordingly.
*If using parking near the venue, please be aware that vehicles may not be allowed to exit until 12:00 AM. If you wish to leave earlier, consider parking further away in the direction of your return route.
